New publication in Nature Materials:
Snapshots of non-equilibrium Dirac carrier distributions in graphene [more]

The group started in September 2013. The time-resolved photoemission setup is ready to run, and we are looking for PhD and Master students.

Ultrafast Electron Dynamics

Otto Hahn Group – Dr. Isabella Gierz

Welcome to the Otto Hahn Group for Ultrafast Electron Dynamics!

The group, based at the Max Planck Institute for the Structure and Dynamics of Matter, started in September 2013 and focuses on quasiparticle dynamics on the femtosecond time scale. Our technique of choice is time- and angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy in combination with selected electronic and vibrational excitation schemes as well as in situ sample preparation and low-energy electron diffraction.

We are interested in the response of the electronic structure to strong electronic and vibrational excitation and in a control of the electronic properties with tailored femtosecond light pulses. Special emphasis lies on the dynamics of massless Dirac particles in graphene, on one-dimensional metallic wires with strong electronic correlations, and on the control of the electron spin with light in low-dimensional systems with a strong spin-orbit interaction.

Do you want to become part of the team? We are looking for PhD and Master students!
