Eryin Wang to receive Chorafas Prize

August 24, 2018

Dr Eryin Wang receives the Chorafas Prize for his work on the angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy of 2D material heterostructures, which was the focus of his PhD. He works with director Andrea Cavalleri’s group in the Condensed Matter Dynamics Department of the MPSD.

Dr Wang has also been awarded a Humboldt research fellowship this summer and will use the funding for a two-year project to study ultrafast phenomena on small chips.

The Chorafas Prize is awarded each year by the Dimitris N. Chorafas Foundation to doctorate students whose work in the engineering sciences, medicine and the natural sciences is ranked as outstanding. The evaluation of the PhD students aims to reward “research characterized by its high potential for practical application and by the special significance attached to its aftermath”. The Foundation’s partner universities include EPFL, MIT, UCLA and ETHZ, among others.

Eryin Wang has been at the MPSD since September 2017. He received his BS degree from Beihang University in 2011 and his PhD from Tsinghua University in 2017. His work will combine photoconductive switches and the thin-film growth technique to study novel light-induced phenomena such as light-enhanced superconductivity in potassium-doped fullerene.
