Scanning probe microscopy (SPM) provides a powerful platform for exploring quantum materials with nanoscale spatial resolution and direct access to their local electronic and magnetic properties, as well as for atomic-scale manipulation of material systems. In this talk, I will introduce several functional SPM techniques and their applications in investigating novel nanoscale physical phenomena, including (1) the detection of quantum Hall isospin ferromagnetism in twisted double bilayer graphene using scanning conductivity and chemical potential microscopy (SCCM); (2) the engineering of skyrmion track arrays in the ferromagnet Fe₃GaTe₂ using magnetic force microscopy (MFM) combined with a vector magnetic field; and (3) the observation and manipulation of chiral electronic states in Co-intercalated NbS2 using scanning tunneling microscopy (STM). The key capabilities and limitations of these SPM techniques will also be discussed.
Yunhao will be a Guest at MPSD on Monday, 31.08.2026 to Tuesday, 01.09.2026. Let Mareike Neitzel know if you are looking to meet with him.
