25 PhD projects on offer at the IMPRS UFAST
Apply until 15 November for this exciting interdisciplinary program
Young scientists from around the world are now invited to apply for this year's intake of PhD students at the International Max Planck Research School for Ultrafast Imaging & Structural Dynamics, IMPRS UFAST. The School's outstanding structured PhD program focuses on ultrafast phenomena, X-ray physics and dynamical imaging in all areas of science, from physics to chemistry and biology.
Students gain access to some of the world's most brilliant light sources and receive training in a wide range of scientific and transferable subjects to give them the best possible start for their scientific careers. Supervision is provided by more than 30 leading scientists from the IMPRS UFAST partners: the Max Planck Institute for the Structure and Dynamics of Matter (MPSD), the Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron (DESY), the European XFEL and the Universität Hamburg.
25 interdisciplinary research projects are on offer, with topics including the theoretical and experimental aspects of condensed matter, accelerator-based light-sources, coherent imaging, molecular imaging and atomically resolved dynamics as well as extreme timescale spectroscopy, ultrafast optics and X-ray science.
IMPRS-UFAST is located at the Center for Free-Electron Laser Science (CFEL) in Hamburg, on the city's expanding Science Campus. This unique research environment encourages scientific exchange and collaboration amongst scientists at all stages of their careers.
Coordinator Neda Lotfiomran says: “IMPRS-UFAST is an outstanding PhD program of excellence. We are looking for applicants with a superb academic background who are motivated to carry out ambitious research for the duration of the program. It is an great opportunity to work with powerful 4th generation light sources and internationally renowned scientists from four world-class institutions in Hamburg as well as the Excellence Clusters and other graduate schools on the Bahrenfeld campus. We look forward to receiving your application.”
The IMPRS UFAST call is now open. You can apply for a place on this exciting international program until 15 November 2020 by clicking on the application link. Please ensure you follow the step-by-step guidelines for the application process very carefully.
