IT

The MPSD Information Technology (IT) Department provides all employees of the MPSD with an optimaized IT infrastructure that meets their various requirements. In addition to user advice and support, the IT department provides a wide range of IT services that it either operates locally or coordinates with our external service providers DESY IT and GWDG. In addition to equipping workstations with standardized hardware and software, distributing individual software and monitoring software licenses, we work with scientists to develop special solutions in their experimental environment.

A small server room in the CFEL building and a large server room in the new building are available to the MPSD for operating local servers. MPSD IT is responsible for the IT infrastructure in both server rooms with a total of 23 racks. This includes the monitored power supply/distribution, water-cooled server racks, the internal high-speed network in the server room, a central storage cluster, and the monitoring of the entire infrastructure.

Furthermore, IT is responsible for mobile devices and supports users in all matters concerning mobile services (VPN, cloud, research services). 

For building operations, IT operates the infrastructure for the electronic locking system, as well as the media technology in all meeting and seminar rooms of both buildings.
