Workshops for PhD students on Bahrenfeld Campus - Competent at conferences
Conferences are a valuable opportunity to build your network of connections, but this doesn’t happen just by chance. Being able to initiate conversations and make a good impression quickly are key skills in making the most of your time at conferences. The Competent at Conferences workshop will teach you how to network effectively and productively at conferences, career fairs and other gatherings.

Methods that will allow you to:

  • Break into established conversations
  • Make a good impression quickly
  • Start conversations
  • Approach people you don’t yet know
  • Use the different environments (breaks, poster sessions etc)
  • Maintain the connections you make
  • Gain the confidence to do all of the above

Outcomes: By establishing a useful and productive network you will be able to remain updated about new scientific developments, collaboration opportunities and new jobs as they arise. This will allow you the best choice of opportunities because you will know about them first.
The seminar will be very interactive. Expect to be asked lots of questions, expect to be challenged, expect to participate!
